As usual, I have spent the past week and a half reviewing the blog and doing some editing for things Bonnie and I didn’t catch while on the trip, plus reviewing pictures for the slideshow. We loved Ireland: the people, the scenery, the weather (imagine that), the food, the history. It also was very special for me to be where some of my ancestors originated. There are about 40,000,000 Americans who trace their roots to Ireland, while some 23% of Boston’s population claims Irish ancestry.
If you don’t have the luxury of 17 days traveling through Ireland, the west coast of Ireland is a must see. The natural beauty of the Dingle Peninsula, Ring of Kerry and Connemara is unparalleled. As is customary for me, I prefer the smaller towns to the larger cities because they are so much more manageable. In Northern Ireland, I loved the history and sights of Derry. In the Republic, Kilkenny and Killarney were among my favorite locations.
Below is a 15 minute slideshow of our journey set to Irish music. The opening song is sung by a very good friend who introduced us 10 years ago and sang at our wedding. Enjoy as you have time and interest.
